How many porta potties does OSHA require on a construction site?

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c) requires 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers. Crews of 20 to 199 need 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. Crews of 200 or more need 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers. These are legal minimums; we recommend 1 unit per 10 workers so tanks last between weekly services.

OSHA Table D-1, 29 CFR 1926.51(c). A standard porta potty has one seat and one urinal. Legal minimum is separate from our service recommendation.

How does billing work for a job site porta potty?

Job site porta potties bill in 28-day cycles. The first cycle includes delivery, and every cycle includes one service visit per week. Billing renews automatically until you call for pickup, so the unit never disappears mid-project. A project that ends in two weeks still pays one full cycle; early pickup is free to request.

  • Net-30 invoicing for contractors with an account
  • One invoice can cover several job sites
  • Move a unit between your sites on a service day at no move charge within Cortez
  • Certificate of insurance available for general contractors and agencies

Where should a porta potty go on a job site?

Place the job site porta potty on level ground within 25 feet of a spot the service truck can reach every week. Keep it clear of excavation, material drops, crane swing paths and the dumpster. In Cortez clay soils, avoid low spots that turn to mud after summer monsoon storms or spring melt.

Use our placement checklist. Remote ranch, pipeline or solar sites can share a GPS pin or coordinates by text.

Do job site porta potties need a hand washing station?

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities on sites where workers apply paints, coatings, herbicides or insecticides, or handle other contaminants. Concrete, drywall and stucco crews also benefit. One two-sink hand washing station covers about 10 workers, and it is refilled at each weekly service.

Questions before you book

Can I keep a porta potty on site for just one week?

A one-week job uses the same 28-day cycle price because delivery, pickup and the first service are the main costs. Call when the job ends and pickup follows within one to two business days.

Can my crew move the porta potty around the site?

Your crew can slide an empty unit a short distance on level ground. Once a unit is in use, ask us to move it on the next service day so the tank does not spill. Tell us the new spot so the technician finds it.

Do you deliver to ranches and remote sites without an address?

Remote ranch, pipeline and solar sites get delivery from a GPS pin or coordinates. Text the pin and a photo of the gate. Note any locked gates, cattle guards or two-track roads so we send the right truck.

Can I order more cleanings in a week?

Busy sites can add a second or third weekly service. The added visits show on your quote. Crews over 10 people per unit usually need two visits a week in summer heat.

Do you supply units to house builders and remodelers?

Builders and remodelers rent one standard unit per house in most Cortez subdivisions. Place it at the curb edge of the lot or the driveway apron, where the truck can reach without crossing the foundation.

What happens if a porta potty tips over on my site?

Call right away. We send a truck to right the unit, pump spills and sanitize the area. Strong spring winds across Montezuma County can tip units on open lots, so we stake units on exposed sites.
